Here's a great new mixtape from former TX resident Joe Knight -- aka Rangers -- whose stellar new LP, Suburban Tours, was influenced by Knight's youth spent in a faceless Dallas suburb, and has been described as sounding like "a lost Steely Dan session recorded onto a mangled microcassette tape." We've had the record on repeat around here as of late, so it's nice to get this glimpse into some of the less-obvious sonic influences that shaped his hazy, inherently nostalgic "elevator psyche" sound. Here's the first jam from Pocahaunted's new Make It Real LP, the L.A. outfit's first effort since expanding to a five-piece (via adding new members Sun Araw + Diva Dompe). "Save Yourself (It's Nice)" veers from danceable, frenetic jungle groove to ethereal space-dub jam over the course of its relatively structured 8 minutes, courtesy of Cameron Stallones' signature fuzzed-out organ flourishes and Amanda's unmistakeable banshee wail. Nice melody too, and super tight L.A.-themed graffiti cover art.

Joanna Newsom's Have One on Me is finally out today, and NPR is offering a full album stream here. If the prospect of 3 LPs of new Newsom seems daunting, start with the incredible "Baby Birch" and the heartbreakingly intimate "Go Long" -- two of the album's defining tracks, both of which today's Pitchfork review inexplicably failed to mention -- or Newsom's perfect Joni-esque jaunt through Laurel Canyon, "Good Intentions Paving Company."
