all the lights in the city tonight
It's Texas Music Week here on gorilla vs. bear. With so many Texas bands blowing up right now in the indie rock world (Dallas' The Happy Bullets and the Tah-Dahs, Austin's SOUND team and Voxtrot, to name just a few), right now's a good time to be a music fan living in Dallas. So, I thought I'd feature at least one Texas band/artist every day this week that deserves to be heard by you guys. First up, Dallas' own Travis Hopper:
On his debut LP, all the lights in the city tonight, Travis Hopper enlists help from some of Dallas' best musicians (members of gorilla vs. bear favorites the Deathray Davies, Radiant*, Sorta, and Salim Nourallah all make contributions), and the result is a collection of well-crafted, country-tinged pop gems that brings to mind a younger, less jaded Ryan Adams. Here are a couple tracks from the LP (due out later this year) that showcase Travis' earnest, heartfelt lyrics and knack for creating an instantly hummable melody.
Recommended for fans of early Wilco, the Jayhawks, and pre-meltdown Ryan Adams:
