Oil in the Fields
Today's post is about Brooklyn's (by way of East Texas) Paul Duncan. Dusted Magazine says that Paul Duncan's new record, Be Careful What You Call Home "will appeal to those who like their singer songwriters nicely contained (a la Jose Gonzalez and Iron and Wine), as well as those who like to be surprised (a la Feathers and Smog)". He's also been compared to Sufjan Stevens, and that's pretty much all I need to hear before giving this guy a chance.
Needless to say, I'm glad I did. At first listen, these songs are simple, beautiful, and strangely familiar, but repeated headphone listens reveal more layers and a deeper sonic complexity. Highly recommended.
