I had never heard of Nic Garcia before reading Aquarium Drunkard's interview with Morgan King, founder of Yer Bird Records. Yer Bird will be releasing Garcia's new album, The Desperate Ones, later this month, and King had this to say about Garcia's sound:
"...both warm and intimate and harrowingly bleak and desolate, like a indie fever-dream reaction to Springsteen's Nebraska, or Sufjan Stevens in a drunken knife-fight with Songs: Ohia's Impala"
Needless to say, I went directly to Garcia's website and downloaded the tracks he was offering...here are a couple from his 2004 release, Sheep and Wolf, to get you interested in the new album:
Nic Garcia Dirty mp3
Nic Garcia Long, Long Time mp3
Some Velvet Blog has the Devendra Banhart track from the John Fahey Tribute.
