It's been a while since I did a straight music post, and this one is kinda unorganized and all over the place, but here are a few songs I've been rocking lately...hope you guys like 'em.
Arcade Fire at Trees (dallas)The
Arcade Fire's newest single, "
Cold Wind", has been featured on nearly every blog that exists (including this one) in the past couple weeks, so you probably already have that track. (if not i could probably hook you up, email me or leave a comment) But, the
B-side will be their cover of the 1939 Ary Baroso/Ed Russell standard "
Brazil". Here's
The Arcade Fire doing it live:

I didn't really expect to see a
Paul Wall track reviewed by Pitchfork, and positively reviewed at that. But apparently he is adored by gangsters AND hipsters alike. Anyway, this track is some straight southern (via Houston) hip hop. Not a genre I'm usually that fond of, but Paul Wall's got something going here. What it do.

Also recently
reviewed by Pitchfork, the Concretes' version of "Miss You" is considerably more melancholy and haunting (and considerably less, umm, groovy?) than the Stones' version. Compare/contrast:

Another artist that's been blowing up the blogsphere lately is Norway's Annie, and this track has a distinct '80's soundtrack-y, Cindy Lauper-style feel to me. I know i just said that, but I'm not sure exactly what it means. Listen:

Finally, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has been rocking my iPod nonstop since the weekend (when I could bring myself to stop listening to "Illinois") This is one band that I really think will live up to and transcend all the hype (ie the Arcade Fire). Go get a bunch of tracks from Dodge and Rachael, then buy the album...I ordered mine last night (only 12 bucks). Recommended: "Is This Love?", "Over and Over Again" (so Talking Heads), and "Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood".
