1. The Brave and the Bold by Tortoise & Bonnie Prince Billy - Ideal for meadow sitting. A bluebird floats by...

2. Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads - PLease, who doesnt love the Talking heads?

For me the top three are all bound to be stuff I haven't heard yet. I'm frankly anticipating those bands and tracks I don't yet know. Let's face it we all can't wait for more from the Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Pixies etc. etc. etc. ... but the point of this whole MP3 blog thing is to find the stuff you won't be able to find by just walking into your local corporate oxidental bazaar .... so I'm gonna make up some band names and album names in anticipation:

1. The Outsize Edge - The Death of Ink and Paper

(throbbing indie guitar based noise reminiscent of whatever it was that got me into music in the first place)

2. CHUB - High on B card B

(this year's arctic monks. Tales of clubs about c**k hungary b**tches from the street. will make you feel 16 again .. just cos you CAN listen to it. nice.)

3. Quintana - Repaced Hopper

(a band named after the Jesus ... couldn't be better. quite a lot of acoustic guitar and even some acoustic bass. recorded in the bands kitchen for natural reverb.)

Sorry for going on. I'm gonna get my record out this year too that I am shamelessly plugging at:

Jose Gonzalez: Stay in the Shade EP (US release)

Cat Power: The Greatest

Both of those are next week, so I'm at a loss for the next 11 months right now.

Spiritualized. Nothing is confirmed, but I remain hopeful.

Others that I'm hopeful for:

-Chad Vangaalen. Perhaps Sub Pop will release some of his several hundred other songs.

-The Russian Futurists. 'Our Thickness' was one of the most overlooked albums of '05, maybe '06 will get Matthew Adam Hart the attention he deserves.

-Mogwai. Mr. Beast.

The top-of-the-heap/a-number-one anticipated album for me is Pas/Cal's full length debut: 'Citizens Army Uniform.'

Settling for number 2, since we've been settling for rumors two years would be the Tribe Called Quest reunion. Barring the likely reality that that doesn't happen . . .

Number 3 will go to whatever projects Danger Mouse collaborates on.

1) Destroyer - Possibly the best album of 2006
2) Shins- Can't ever get enough of James Mercer's voice
3) Arcade Fire- Is there any chance this disc can be as good as Funeral

There are too many too choose from and I anticipate them all, but these were the three I can't wait for

radiohead:

because radiohead is better than your five favorite bands combined, and if radiohead IS your favorite band, they're even better than you think.

tv on the radio:

these guys have taken such sharp turns in their short yet absurdly inspiring career, it's kinda hard to predict what direction they're going to go in with this album. for a band as creative as tv on the radio, wondering what the new album will sound like is half the fun.

the shins:

because everyone needs a smart pop record to blast with their windows down in the middle of august. i want something i can sing along to. i've put the falsetto to the left for too long; it's time to bring it back.

Under the "DFA1979 band and spin-off" category:
1a. MSTRKRFT - The Looks - their remixes were the party anthems of 2005; let's see what Al-P and JFK got
1b. Death From Above 1979 - JFK said their next album would be a leap for the band in the same vein as "The Bends" to "OK Computer" was for Radiohead. whoa.

Under the "it's the band that always makes a random Tuesday important" category:
2. Radiohead - speaking of which; what can't they do and still not alienate their fans? regardless, i'm buying cds and ducets.

Under the "pretty please, i mean, come on" category:
3. Ted Leo, The Arcade Fire, Interpol, and Ratatat. None are really overdue, but i wouldn't mind some more.

Also looking forward to - For the Mathematics, Aids Wolf, Birdmonster, Tool (for some reason), and Weezer - because "make believe" just didn't happen. in fact, i consider it make believe.

Cheers!

Well...I'm not sure if there are definately releases planned from those following bands...it's only a feeling.

I know there's a new Destroyer record planned I'm anticipating...so that's number one.

Also I hope for a new record by Ben Weaver.

And lastly I probably won't stay healthy without anything new by Sodastream, since the last album is from 2003.

But there are millions others...
