Has Chris posted on Silversun Pickups? Wait, that's a dumb question. Does the sun rise every morning? Yes, of course he has and of course it does. As always, I'm playing catch-up.
No matter. I picked up on Silversun Pickups through KEXP, where the LA-based group did an in-studio performance. (They also performed for KEXP from SXSW on Thursday.)
Silversun released the EP Pikul (available on iTunes) last year and should be releasing a full-length this year. A few weeks ago, I did a post on Seattle outfit Magneto, and I think Silversun falls along the same lines of wide-open guitars with this sort of space-rock feel. I'm encouraged by what seems to be an indie renaissance of a new generation of shoe-gazer rock -- getting lost in walls of guitar sounds with these subtle underlying melodies. My first comparison always brings me back to Hum.
See what you think. Silversun is on Dangerbird Records. And they're on MySpace. Like, duh.
(Be warned of Silversun's motion sickness-inducing banner on their Web site; during an interview with KEXP, singer Brian Aubert said someone didn't care for the band because the Web site made them vomit. For some reason, that made me laugh out loud.)
