save it for the morning
Dear bands I want to see,
Please stop playing in Denton on weeknights. I know Dallas crowds can be lame, and we have trouble even keeping any decent venues open, but Denton is far, and some of us have work in the morning. Thanks. Bands I don't like, please disregard this plea.
We saw Cold War Kids last night in Denton, and needless to say, I'm running late for work this morning, so this'll be quick. Frontman Nathan Willett, who was clearly influenced by old Delta Blues singers as much as Jeff Buckley, is essentially a soul singer fronting an indie-rock band, and I mean that in the best possible way. Willett and guitarist Jonnie Russell's vocal harmonies are something special. The band seemed to win over the moderately crowded venue with their infectious energy and (ahem) "soulful" performance, and I definitely recommend checking them out if they roll through your town.
