Cat Power: Live at the ACL Studios

the view from our seats

In possibly the greatest single night in the history of this blog, we were somehow able to see Cat Power's incredible ACL taping and Joanna Newsom's absolutely awe-inspiring performance at The Parish here in Austin (more on that tomorrow). Chan seemed extremely comfortable (relatively speaking) with multiple cameras all up in her grill, and her voice was absolutely pristine in that studio. Here's the setlist...we left about 10 songs in to make it to the Joanna Newsom show.

I was unable to get any shots at the Sufjan/Raconteurs ACL taping, but the wonderful people at Austin City Limits hooked us up with these amazing photos, taken by the great Scott Newton:

yikes. that would've been a beautiful set to see...i gave my tickets away to catch the joanna/bill show tonight. kind of funny how my friends & i were maybe 20-30 people back in line at 8pm, yet the mass in front of us turned into around 100 people. HEY, I KNOW YOU LET ME CUT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE WHO'VE BEEN WAITING HERE FOR AN HOUR! i hate that. anyway, all that matters is that we got in & the show was amazing. i noticed that you left - not a smog fan or were you just too worn out after this insanely amazing weekend?

Sufjan was wearing the same thing at his show in Indianapolis last night. He called himself the Majestic Songbird or something, and his band was the Magical Butterfly Brigade. Great show!

Was Since U Been Gone the Aretha Franklin song? If so, that's tremendous...
