Our friend C.J. recently recommended Tears Of A Clone, the new LP from genre-defying, impossible-to-classify Philadelphia band Icy Demons. My first introduction to the Demons came about a year ago, when Claudia Deheza told me in an interview that they were an amazing band. And when Ms. Deheza speaks, I listen. I was immediately intrigued by the band's dizzying avant-pop, but I had trouble tracking down much of their catalog.
Tears, which according to C.J., "sounds like andy partdridge worked with tortoise," has been called "one of the best records of the year" (by Tiny Mix Tapes). I'm at a loss to describe just how mind-bendingly unique (and yet still somewhat accessible) this record is, so instead, here's one of my favorite songs from the LP. The drumming duties on this one are handled by Man Man's Pow Pow:
