why and how come
The Shaky Hands were recently called "the best rock band in Portland," which means a whole lot more than if they lived in say, Sacramento (no offense dudes), because Portland is arguably where it's at these days (see Menomena, the Shins, Viva Voce, the Thermals, et al). Anyway, it turns out these guys are the Thermals' favorite new band, and our friends at I Guess I'm Floating and Said the Gramophone are fans as well. But the reason we're talking about the Shaky Hands here is that we can't get their insanely infectious tunes out of our head lately. I imagine if you're a fan of warm and fuzzy hook-laden rock of the Tapes 'n Tapes and/or CYHSY variety you'd really enjoy this, and if not, lighten up already:

The Shaky Hands' self-titled debut comes out April 10 on Portland's Holocene Music, home of the wonderful and terribly underrated Alela Diane.

Deerhoof in Dallas
We didn't make it out to the Deerhoof show last night, but our friend David attended what will be one of the Gypsy Tearoom's final shows, and assures us it was "thunderdunkin'." He was able to snap some photos as well...click the "read more" link to view more shots from the show...
