Last time Devendra Banhart rolled through Dallas, we asked him to elaborate on the "space reggae" genre he was in the process of creating. Devendra's reply? "Space reggae is like an island. But it floats." Word. Anyway, based solely on that characteristically vague explanation, we're going to go out on a limb and presuppose that new Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon cut "Tonada Yanomaminista," while neither particularly spacey nor remotely reggae, is totally "space reggae." Listen to it and another new album track (the lovely "Rosa") at Devendra's myspace.

Devendra will post a couple new Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon "songzzzzzzzz" each Friday in the next few weeks, leading up to the album release in September.
