The Polyphonic Spree: 7th Annual Holiday Extravaganza
The Polyphonic Spree brought their annual Holiday Extravaganza back home to a packed Lakewood Theater last night here in Dallas. A presumably exhausted Tim Delaughter and crew -- the band played a total of 4 sets in a span of about 7 hours -- were in rare form. You could tell they were happy to be home for the holidays. Highlights included a tripped-out psychedelic version of "Do You Hear What I Hear?/Little Drummer Boy" (the whole set was accompanied by equally psychedelic acid visuals), their signature rousing covers of "Happy X-Mas (War is Over)," "Live and Let Die," "Lithium," and Bowie's "The Sun Machine," and a moving, set-ending audience sing-along to The Fragile Army standout, "The Championship." But the best part of the night was the euphoric, old-school version of "We Sound Amazed" (from Together We're Heavy) to begin the encore; the choir has never sounded better.
