panda bear x new era contest

That radical Billy Ripken-era Baltimore Orioles color-scheme fitted pictured above is a super-limited Panda Bear New Era cap, designed by Mr. Noah Lennox himself. Only 80 of these things exist, so you can either attempt to buy one for a retarded amount on eBay, or you can win one right here. I'll make this easy for you: in the comments, tell me what you think are the best-looking team uniforms in sports history. Your choice can come from any sport, but be specific (team/era), and if you pick any team that uses teal or "burnt orange," you're automatically disqualified. I'll pick one winner on Monday, February 4. Oh, the winner will also receive a one-year subscription to the Fader Magazine.

The Celtic Football Club, From Ireland. Recent.

Mid 90's Denver Nuggets, the multi-colored skyline was pretty serious.
being a red sox fan.....damn , it hurts ....... the way the early 80s tigers ....plain and just flat out usda pimp
I'm not from the west coast, but there's just something about the all yellow home Lakers uniforms from the 80's, short shorts and all. I mean does anybody pull them off better than Magic Johnson?
i would have to say the san diego chargers of the 60's & 70's with the powder blue and yellow lightning bolts...perfection.

1978 World Cup Dutch National Team kit
The 1966-67 Golden State Warriors "The City" yellow and blue jerseys. They've got the players number on a cable car, how sick is that.
Detroit Cougars, 28-29.

as for eyesores which become delightful, the harlem globetrotters have just about everything beat. I've only seen them live in the early 1990s, but they probably looked better on those crossover episodes of Scooby Doo, to be honest.
chicago bears, 1970.
80's Minnesota North Stars
Colorado Rockies (1976-1982 NHL) jersey.
San Francisco Warriors circa Rick Barry.
Chicago Cubs. Any year.
Hands down - Chicago Bulls 80's road uniforms. Even white guys looked sweet wearing gold chains in these things. Link -

1979 chicago white sox. awesome lapels.
70s Atlanta Braves
My initial pick echoed blogger matt's choice; the cable car-adorned, goldenrod & royal Warriors jerseys were pure beauty, and continue to stand amongst the slickest any game has ever seen. They're darned-near unf_ckwittable. But, seeing as how they've already been called, I'm going to go ahead and f_ck wit em. My choice is the warm-side-of-the-rainbow themed Houston Astros jerseys of the late 70s and early 80s. Baseball never fails to place me in a coma, but even I'll admit to getting doe-eyed over these. Hell, they even SORT OF match the hat.

the old houston colt 45 baseball jerseys.
I love those late 70s/early 80s San Diego Padres uniforms, the yellow/black/brown ones before they traded the Wizard of Oz to the Cardinals.
On a side note, the WORST uniforms have got to be those new-ish Washington Wizards alternates, the gold jerseys and black shorts.
shit, these are some amazing choices guys. this is going to be tough.

the chargers powder blue jerseys. they never lose when they wear em.
Easy. The Boston Red Sox. Why? They haven't changed in 100 years because it's such a clean look. I have to admit it's the best even though I'm not a big fan.
kind of torn here. big fan of the old suns jersey, but i really like the old boston bruins uni:

Nice color scheme with a badass crest. simple but stylin'. the striping on the socks just throws it over the top. they are timeless too:

the kelly green Eagles jerseys from '69-'96 I(r.i.p.)... that gorgeous, lush color is the color of the weed i crush (some bangin' ass tree obviously, if you know the color of the jerseys i'm talking about) when i put on person pitch, or some amazing animal collective bootleg from '07. I cant wait for their new album to come out so they tour and hit up philly... Im gonna, i swear, camp out so i cant get up close to the stage at the first unitarian church, and ill be wearing that crazydope hat, and Noah himself will smile cause he'll see his hat and give me a high five. And i'll be high as a kite off that kelly green 'dro.
honestly, is there anything fresher, than the 92 dream team jersey's? anything mj puts on is gonna look good, but this jersey takes it to a whole new level.

classic NY Yankees - no changes for decades and none the worse for wear.
The only professional team to wear purple and orange (neither word rhymes with anything!). Phoenix Suns! Their 90's uniforms (excluding the black ones). Barkley, KJ, Majerle, Steve Nash with a fade haircut. I'm sure this won't win, since you're based in Dallas. Go Suns!

http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/mlb/photo/photogallery/expos_35/19.jpg
1969 Seattle Pilots Road Jersey:
Bright yellow accents on a medium heather jersey make the jersey at once brilliantly colored but not overly conspicuous--form and functionality. However, what make the jersey truly great are the all lowercase type face and the logo. "Seattle" is written in a striking tall and sharp sans-serif font face, the irregularity of which is years ahead of its time. Finally, the logo is minute and positioned to the upper left of the "seattle" outlined in attractive baby blue. The idiosyncratic composition of this jersey is remarkable and resembles something made in the 80's. I would proudly wear this piece on any day of the week.
http://www.mitchellandness.com/images/BSPI69R56_W.jpg
I have to say that any jersey with the old school Brewers MB logo on it is great. Best sports logo ever which makes any jersey its on just as great.

i dig the red chicago bulls yooneeze from '84
the front has 'chicago' in black cursive on a tilt with a white stroke. the numbers are much smaller in black underneath, aligned right.
the back has the name in all white no stroke. and the numbers are large black with a white stroke. jordan really popped on the back. i think there is a sick rock cradle slam on 'Come Fly With Me' while wearing these uniforms.

I'm going to go with the 1942 Kansas City Monarchs. With the black heart/KC patch on the sleeve. Longest standing team in the Negro Leagues with Satchel Paige in his prime.
1996 Lithuanian National Basketball team - designed by Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart.
The tie-dyed shirts sport Lithuania's colors: green, red and yellow. A figure of a skeleton -- one of many Dead symbols -- wearing a green Lithuanian shirt is shown reverse-dunking a ball through the hoop, in the center of a ring of fire. On the back is a drawing of a basketball globe with a skelton hand twirling the ball on its index finger.
The Dead became sponsors of the Lithuanian basketball team shortly before the '92 games, and through the band's Rex Foundation, have donated thousands of dollars for children's charities in that country.

Always been a big fan of the '86 Mets. great color combo w/orange and royal blue, boss pinstripes, and that blue-orange-blue side stripe is just sick. plus they won the World Series, which gives the look that much more swagger.
See?
and just for fun ..
Baltimore Orioles, and not because that's Noah's team. Their letters, color scheme, character…all so dope. &0's era Astros are a close 2nd.
Best team uniform?
Probably the one worn by the soccer team Livorno from Italy.
It's a mixture of red and black, and as soon as it's seen by a fan of any other team, you can be sure you'll get your ass kicked.
Livorno are actually openly communists.
So, grab a friend, take a trip to Europe, give your friend a Livorno team dress and head to Italy if you like practical jokes. He'll never know what hit him. Or why.
Gotta go with the Hartford Whalers in the mid 80's, not for the colors but they wore the hockey pants!
You could argue that those led to the baggy basketball short trend.....It's there somewhere.
old school San Diego Padres...from the Ozzie Smith and early Tony Gwynn era
it's not terribly difficult to come up with the correct choice here...the 1979 world champion pittsburgh pirates uniforms. the classic pinstriped hats, the pitch-perfect piping...they even brought dock ellis back that year so their color scheme was no doubt approved by hallucinogenic enthusiasts
http://passionweiss.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/kent_telkulve2.jpg
however, if this doesn't capture your fancy, i would also suggest the 1974 zaire world cup jersey. a ferociously cool print of which i have the feeling mr. lennox would approve.

i'm a longtime Whalers fan, so i'm thankful to see so many people giving props to the Whale. but i can't win on a repeat, so how about the next best hockey uni of all time? that 80s Sabres jersey is beautiful. Symmetrical, simple colour scheme, not too busy. it's a thing of wonder.
http://bfloblog.wnymedia.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/sabres_original_road.jpg
'70's through '80's Houston Astros. So crazy colorful and Nolan Ryan too. Just oozes that color palate of the era. Plus, that guy from The Black Lips rocked the jersey on Conan and made it so Dirty South/punk rock.
The late 70's - early 80's Milwaukee Brewers ROAD uni's take the cake. All light blue jersey with matching light blue pant accented by navy blue and yellow stripes. Fantastic!
If this uni doesn't ooze pimp, well sir, I would then wish to be colorblind.

Hands down the 1944 Brooklyn Dodgers. Talk about being a player on the field.

1977-80 Seattle Mariners.
The uniforms were the best thing those teams had going.

The San Diego Chargers Powder Blues...so nice.
Minor League Baseball team the Jamestown Jammers have at least the best logo ever, a bat-wielding bunch of grapes.

Just screams intimidation, doesn't it?
No one should comment. Chris doesn't come through with his promises. I won a contest a long time ago and never got my prize. Fuckin' cheapskate.
I'm not a hockey fan, but going by simply the best uniforms, I'd have to go with the Pittsburgh Penguins' game sweaters from '68-72. They were much different from what are worn now and were powder blue and navy. And the logo on the front is awesome - how can you beat a skating Penguin! This was the first time that the logo was included on the team's unis and I think it looks great.

I gotta say growing up in b-more in the 80's that the 1966 - 1989 orioles uniforms with the Bird on the cap are the most hot shit badass uniforms ever.
Hmmmm you're against "burnt orange", you live in North Texas, and you're often full of sh*t. Are you a Sooner?
I am definetly gonna have to go with the 1948 Cleveland Indians logo, which is the old school chief wahoo mascot that looks like an old Cherokee Indian or somethin, and this was the last year that the team has won a world series since they fell short to those damn boston red sox tis past year. so check it out....http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.weplay.com/Cleveland/Indians/throwbacks/48.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.weplay.com/Cleveland/Indians/throwbacks/48-jacket.html&h=258&w=271&sz=20&hl=en&start=9&um=1&tbnid=74QwoHdg-D5ReM:&tbnh=108&tbnw=113&prev=/images%3Fq%3D1948%2Bcleveland%2Bindians%2Bjersey%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG
Here's a few winners...
The number one pimp jersey of all time, hands down, is the late 1970s-1980s Denver Nuggets jersey. Look at Alex English rock that Denver skyline!
Denver Nuggets
I also have a few honorable mentions. Most professional sports leagues are fairly conservative. But the minor leagues go all out to draw fans. My 2nd-4th place finishers are from various minor league affiliates:
2). The Lansing Lugnuts--modern day jerseys. The Lugnuts are a minor league affiliate of the Tigers. They actually used to outsell the Tigers in terms of ticket sales in Michigan up until five years ago.
Lansing Lugnuts
3). The Peoria Rivermen-Once per year, starting in 2005, the junior league hockey team plays for one night and then auctions these disco-themed jerseys off. Imagine body checking somebody dressed like this.
Disco night
4). And finally, my favorite minor league hat is currently the Peoria Chiefs. The mean fire dog strikes fear in the hearts of men, even if Single A baseball players do not. (The Montgomery Biscuits and the Quad City Swing are also great lids!)
200th, bitches!
