intended play
Matador Records has just released their annual Intended Play spring compilation, highlighting the label's recent and upcoming releases. This is the first time they've put it out digitally, though, and it's available for free download over at the matablog. Among the standouts: unreleased tracks from Jay Reatard, Matmos, and Shearwater, as well as tracks from the recent Cat Power, Malkmus, and Times New Viking records (full tracklist here). I'm not that impressed with what Matador has been doing lately. Even Cat Power is on the decline, her vocals are getting worse. That's what a lot of smoking will do.
Shearwater is by far the best band they've picked up in the last few years, so new stuff from them is always good.
