2008 ACL lineup announced

I'm sure you guys will have something to say about those headliners, but aside from Beck and David Byrne, the real strength of this year's ACL Festival lies in the second and third tier bands. There are quite a few notoriously awesome live acts mixed in there, including Badu, N.E.R.D., Hot Chip, Spiritualized, White Denim, Jamie Lidell, Del, The Black Keys, CSS, Man Man, Sharon Jones, and more, plus a disproportionately high number of bands I've never heard of. Go here for the full lineup.

mp3:
The Strange Boys :: Nothing
Del tha Funkee Homosapien :: Bubble Pop
Erykah Badu :: Real Thing
Hot Chip :: Made in the Dark

****************************************

unrelated:

solale

I'm not sure why, but I've been way too into dreamy, emotive slo-mo shit lately (see Hercules & Love Affair's "Iris," the new Quiet Village LP, Weezy chopped & screwed, etc.). I'm blaming it on the weather. Anyway, this blissful new demo from Lindstrom & Solale falls squarely into that category:

lindstrom & solale :: high and low (demo)

who the hell are half the band in the bottom couple lines. no idea.
acl has by far the weakest headliners of any summer festival.

The only person I'd like to see on there is Jamie Lidell

That is the shittiest line up I've seen yet.

awesome, for the low price of $200 you can walk around during the day because you won't know who to see and you can leave at night because you don't want to see the headliners.

if you really have no idea who half those people are, i genuinely question why you are here. not saying you have to like them all, but dang.

half the people in the last few lines....not half the bands.

Disappointed with the headliners. I was expecting something that compared with Lolla and Cochella but this isn't close. But I agree the mid tier bands are strong and they usually make the festival.

Wow an American Festival Lineup without Radiohead on the bill!
Plenty there for everyone.
Never seen Manu Chao live, reckon it would be fun :-)
MGMT, Hot Chip, Jose Gonzales.

A big name lineup doesn't always mean good performances.

agreed that big line-ups do not translate into good festivals.

I also think that this is a good lineup. And I second the motion for turning off anonymous comments.

For me, the best shows usually aren't the headliners. If you can't get closer than 200-300 yards from the stage without having to camp out for half the day and missing a bunch of other stuff, then you might as well be watching it from home on tv. I recognize a bunch of the acts from the lower lines. I would recommend Bobby Bare, Jr., South Austin Jug Band, The Lee Boys, Colour Revolt, Delta Spirit, Yeasayer, Heartless Bastards, etc. As for the ones I haven't heard of, that's one of the main reasons I go to ACL is to hear stuff I've never heard of before.

One of the best things about ACL is the variety. You're just not going to find that kind of variety at most other festivals.

Killer, I can't wait to drop 200 bucks to stand in 100 degree heat to see a few good acts that all routinely tour clubs.

Man. Gillian Welch. This kills me, I would totally dig seeing her, she's so talented.

I think everyone should seriously stop giving a shit what anonymous posters say. That's lame. If you want to go, go, if you don't, shut the fuck up.

The problem with ACL is that their target demographic ranges from 15 to 50 year olds and thus alienates everyone. ACL is the most "mom" friendly fest and that's what they seem to be going for. Still some good bands playing in the afternoon and I can get a good nights sleep.

I think it looks like a very solid fest. I was wondering where to start when listening to mars volta. It seems like they are a fun live band but there albums are generally disliked by critics. Just checkin. Thanks
