african scream contest

Seems like every one of these African soul/psych comps I come across is better than the last, and this awesomely-titled collection of '70s High Life/soul/funk/psychedelia from West African nations Benin and Togo (presented by the great Analog Africa) raises the bar one more time. The whole thing is pretty exciting, but my jam is this soul burner from Gabo Brown and the incredible Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo (click that).

Gabo Brown & Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo :: It's a Vanity

African Scream Contest is sold out most places, but you can still find it in some spots. A little pricey, but well worth it.

Caribou + Fuck Buttons bring their respective intense live shows to town this coming Monday, and we have a few pairs of tickets to give away. Hit us up at gorillavsbearcontests@gmail.com and let us know why you want to go, and we'll pick a few winners this weekend.

Out of the twenty or so concerts I saw last year, including all of ACL, Caribou was by far the best. They are incredible live. I wish I could go to this. Stupid finals!

poor fuck buttons....saw the show in the seattle...I just feel bad for any band that has to open for such an incredible act as Caribou....

but in all honesty...Caribou, why did you bring fuck buttons, talk about a band that brings nothing new or interesting to the table...wow

Just caught Caribou in Orlando this past month. Absolutely incredible. We did an interview with him after the show and he was a really nice guy.

Really love your blog, btw.

Agree with everyone about Caribou. They're fantastic. Fuck Buttons on the other hand put on one of the most boring shows I've ever witnessed. The only time I was even remotely entertained was when Power banged on his drum (I'm a sucker for live drums) otherwise, blegh. Get some personality guys.
