animal collective: "brother sport" live

Thanks to Pitchfork for pointing us in the direction of this live footage of Animal Collective playing "Brother Sport," which is the hands down standout track from the new material the band has been playing lately, and could be one of their finest songs, period (David named the live version his 3rd favorite song of '07). As P4k mentioned, when people make that oversimplified "El Guincho = Animal Collective" generalization, this is the song they are referring to.

From what I've heard, this is going to be on the new AC record as well:

the 6:03 breakdown reminds me why I listen to music. Along with "Material Things", this tour was one of the best ever.

Whats up with the stupid visuals throughout? Just give me the show. Weird.

I fail to see how it's an oversimplifaction to compare El Guincho to AC/Panda. Absolutely everything he does, Panda has done before him (ten times better). The exact same equipment, croached over his SP-303's and a floor tom with his right hand, hitting the rim of the drum. I mean, it's ok to copy your idols when you start out, and work his way to something original as he goes along. But let's be honest here, he's obviously completely obsessed with Panda. It's slightly emberassing to read interviews where he talks about his influences and not mention the guy he's trying to copy down to the least detail.

Post- screaming, it just sounds like Avey Tare is that annoying kid singing along loudly to that song you're trying to listen to. And the screaming isn't much better. It's a shame that he makes it so much harder to listen to. P-bear and Geologist sound great though.

Also, due credit should go to Konono No.1 for that little intro track.
