brian wilson :: that lucky old sun + LP giveaway

Coming on the heels of his endearingly awkward conversation with Zooey Deschanel, Brian Wilson rolled through the streets of London in the back of a cab on the latest edition of Black Cab Sessions. The legend sings the title track from his new LP, That Lucky Old Sun, but the highlight comes at around the 2:15 mark, when they break out an old classic:

Coincidentally, Cornerstone's hooked us up with a copy of That Lucky Old Sun on limited-edition 180 gram vinyl (pictured below) to give away (EDIT: turns out it's signed by Brian Wilson, too), along with a 7" vinyl single of "Midnight's Another Day." Just leave your favorite Brian Wilson/Beach Boys-related song in the comments, and I'll pick a winner one week from today. For the record, here's my choice:

My favorite "Beach Boys-related" song would have to be "Mouth Full of Sores" by Willups Brighton (played by Bob Odenkirk on Mr. Show)!

One of my recent actual Beach Boys favorite songs... "Sail On, Sailor".

Cheers!

major points for mr. show song reference .

however im going to have to go with Barenaked Ladies' own "Brian Wilson" (song)

As for the real song choice it would have to be either "Country Air" off their underrated Wild Honey or their Paul McCartney influenced "Little Pad" off of the Smiley Smile album

I read the autobiography of Brian Wilson this summer, and all I have to say is Mike Love sucks and Brian Wilson is awesome. And "Our Prayer" is one of the most beautiful a cappella pieces ever.

"'Til I Die" is my all-time fave. The Beach Boys put it out just as the majority of folks thought they were fading into an oldies act, and it up and surpasses most everything they'd ever recorded. Still blows me away after a hundred listens.

Brian Wilson fans, check this out:

lightintheattic.net/releases/sjk

Unreleased Brian Wilson production of a folk/spoken-word artist named Stephen John Kalinich. Recorded in 1969 in Wilson's bathroom. Never before heard.

Pretty weird, and pretty awesome if you're in to stranger stuff.

Just thought you might like to know.

"can't wait too long" -- 5 min version from the "Wild Honey" CD. gorgeous. a sadly abbreviated version appears on Lucky Old Sun, but it's no Beach Boys!

no 2. would have to be Brian's solo "Surf's Up"-- eternally gorgeous!

My personal favorite Brian/Beach Boys track. The harpsichord part on this is fantastic and the chorus has those seemingly discordant harmonies/chord changes. I hear it and think that shouldn't work-- but dammit it does. Oh and the ending is just gorgeous. Love this one.

My favorite moment is when the Beach Boys guest starred on the episode of "Full House" when the Tanners (plus Uncles Jesse, Joey) thought they were shipwrecked on the desserted island when in fact the Beach Boys (I believe only Mike Carl, Bruce and the wormy Al) were on the other side of the island with about a trillion fans. Then they invited the entire family to come up on stage and rock with them.

Of course, Mike Love, being the least talented of the actual band, always ended up schmoozing with Uncle Jesse and his band of Rippers.

"God Only Knows" manages to incorporate elements of rock/pop and classical almost effortlessly. One of those tunes that first provided a glimpse of how far 60s rock could go. They simply don't make guys like this anymore (sadly).

I started to build it up without help and any flyff money, my friend helped a little but I did most of the work. My assist is level 57 and it is getting harder and harder, but my friends who use flyff gold to level me are the greatest. There is one thing and that it is addictive to buy flyff penya. My life as a vagrant began as being hard and lost without knowing but the people and the giant penguin which helped me to get cheap penya to power my assist.
