_____ girls

"Girls" are clearly in line to be the new black/wolf/f**k/crystals for 09. So far we've got Vivian Girls, U.S. Girls, "My Girls," and just Girls (not to mention Women), and now, riding the dirty wave of ultra lo-fi yet extremely melodic/endlessly hummable noise-pop that seems to be building right now comes Toronto's Little Girls and TX's own Fungi Girls.

Fungi Girls' upcoming 12"

We first heard about Fungi Girls from local blog We Shot J.R., and the band has since garnered its share of glowing national attention. Not bad for a couple of 14 & 15 year old kids from Cleburne. With repeat listens, the band's obvious knack for melody rises above their nearly impenetrable layer(s) of fuzz and blown out guitar/drums. Also, possibly the only group on myspace to list WAVVES as an influence:

The band has a few assorted releases coming soon, including a split on Not Not Fun.

The only thing I know about Toronto's Little Girls (aside from the fact that they have 3 promising songs up here) is that sometimes dropping a link to your 2-day-old myspace page in our comment section can result in having one of your songs given away for free right here on the blog:

Here's trying out your suggestion:

Give a listen to the project so far.

And to be on topic; Girls in their varieties of form seem to be musically inclined to lack production, why is this?

Chris, you forgot about Other Girls (formally Black Girls) from Cleveland.

This lo-fi thing is going way too far. I'm guessing this bubble bursts soon. My own pride won't let me enjoy a band with members four years my junior.

yeah a persons age seems like a great reason to discredit something good. especially since that would make you around nineteen so I'm sure you know best. also the fact that they are young only makes what they are doing more charming and genuine then half of the bullshit that goes on anyway...

Well Chris (and anyone else interested), I think you may like this remix/rework of an Aaliyah song (done with guitars, violin, piano etc):

..and/or this cover of Beat It by Michael Jackson:

I disagree with "how to dress well," that Fungi Girls track is exactly the sort of music I read GvB to discover! Calling them garbage is just showing that you're not a fan of the noisepop/lo-fi genre in genral, which is your prerogative. But don't make a fool of yourself while showing your distaste for an entire genre. Just realize that everyone has different tastes, act mature! (a lot to ask on the internet populated by 12 year old trolls with anger issues, I know.) To each their own!

Hey GvB, any idea where I can pick up any Fungi Girls releases?

some good lo-fi stuff (although very different) is called Days. It's kind of like Paavoharju / Kria Brekkan / Bibio...

unsettling, weird melodies.

i taught at girls rock camp austin last summer & all i can think when i listen to stuff like this is that EVERY. BAND. from both sessions made music like this. most of them were beginner musicians or had never touched an instrument. in light of that, it's really hard to take music like this seriously. what happened to smart lo-fi a la henry's dress/beat happening? :/

^^^oh & just to clarify--i love wavves & ducktails. i just think most of what is riding on their wake is not all that enjoyable.

to anonymous 6:04, we in fact know how to play our instruments. we've been playing for three to four years each. our goal for our band was to make simple noise pop tunes, and nothing more. in any case, i'm sure you wouldn't be saying that if you didn't know we were so young.

also, henry's dress was never lo-fi. not sure why people think they were.

Jesus Christ. It's not that hard to record things and not have them sound like you wrapped the microphone in a sock and stuck it in a cardboard box.

Okay, and in keeping with the self-plugging theme: http://www.myspace.com/thehopeslide

I consider our music to be pretty lo-fi, but clearly we need to learn a thing or two about making it sound shittier.

to fungi girls":

i don't think you are aware of what lo-fi means--this is perhaps in result of your being "so young."

wikipedia describes it this way: "Low fidelity or lo-fi describes a sound recording which contains technical flaws such as distortion, hum, or background noise, or limited frequency response. The term "low-fidelity" is used in contrast to the audiophile term high fidelity or "hi-fi", which refers to stereo equipment that very accurately reproduces music without harmonic distortion or unwanted frequency emphasis or resonance."

by that definition, henry's dress could not be called anything other than lo-fi--but it definitely wasn't as horribly contrived as what is being passed for listenable lo-fi these days.

to anonymous 10:36, the seemingly "lo-fi" sound comes from their guitars. they use some pretty beefy, noisy pedals on their guitars. but, it's all recorded pretty nicely.

Two years passed, I still remembered the scene of fighting against wolves in Tir Chonaill with friends, sharing fruit which was got by our mabinogi gold around a fire, fishing in a clean pond. Players will have five seconds freezed to make their own preparation, when the fight beings, win or lose, it depends on your own cheap mabinogi. Here is some mabinogi money I took months ago; I was the guy wielding a thick sword. And I know it is rude enough to beat a woman. But, we can use some mabinogi online gold to edit some dates in the setup menu to change the clothes we wear. As a kind of fantastic online game, I think Mabinogi is more similar to comic and need to buy mabinogi gold.

Such was the case when second life linden labs decided to pull the plug on several banks in the game. Some of these banks offered the system to buy lindens what real life banks would an interest rate. Some people get their secondlife money out of the banks says that Second Life depositors may have US$ 750,000 in real life money. The new rules state that only banks with proof of an applicable government registration statement or financial institution character will be able to operate with cheap linden in the game. Second Life has proven to be a popular place for companies to set up virtual shop where many players can exchange their favorite something with all kinds of linden dollars.
