the xx

Our friends at Beggars recently sent over some extremely promising new demos from four 19-year-olds from South London called The xx. The group recently signed to Beggars imprint Young Turks, and these wistful slow-jams are basically the exact opposite of all the noisy lo-fi stuff I've been posting lately. The Womack & Womack cover is especially recommended:

the xx :: teardrops (womack & womack cover)
the xx :: stars (bedroom demo)

The xx's first 7" will be out soon, with a debut full-length to follow in September.

Thanks to commenter Rob Z for pointing out this relatively decent quality recording of new song "Ready, Able," from Grizzly Bear's BAM show over the weekend. Also, "Colorado" sounds incredible with the full orchestra.

"they suck ass". gVb, you need to start putting music in terms of that which attempts to pull poop from someone's posterior with one's mouth and that which does not.

i think that will help you.

Rich, I think that's the point, that Womack song is from '88

i think the song VCR by the xx is amazing... it has been one of my favorites for a long time. i still don't know how i feel about the band's other work though... something about that song just works for me.

the xx are awesome, really looking forward to the album.
I heard them DJ in the Isle of Wight, they went from My Bloody Valentine to Mariah Carey in three songs!
