new animal collective :: "bleed" (live)

Animal Collective kicked off their mostly sold-out U.S. spring tour with Grouper this week, and NPR was in the building for last night's show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. The enterprising kids at Collected Animals have already hooked up an mp3 of a new song (working title: "Bleed") that the group is playing on this tour:

mp3:
animal collective :: bleed (live)

Check the full setlist and listen to the archived performance here.

I truly believe not enough attention has been brought to the D.C. and Baltimore areas. Even for hip hop as Baltimore is out of focus when it comes to Teddy Faley's DropOuts Inc. or even Cubbiebear. Either these guys need to touch off a new Seattle buzz or bands like Animal Collective need to help bring the geiger-counter to the region in order for a new burgeoning of musical interest. The MTV generation of snippets and flash in the pan music has helped poison the art of music making whereas it is still alive and well in pockets of the country/world. The tribes we all relate too are disjointed and/or crushed for a laundry-list of reasons. Music has become a means of advertising rather than connection.
