the road trailer

As a huge fan/purist of Cormac McCarthy's pitch perfect post-apocalyptic masterpiece The Road, I feel like this trailer features way too much Charlize Theron and natural disaster/news clips, and not nearly enough Omar. Nevertheless, I'm holding out hope that this movie will live up to my unfair expectations (this early review helped):

The art of the theatrical trailer has been lost for a while now. Regardless of how the trailer was cut (I can go on and on about how unfitting the editing is) the composition of the shots that are there look excellent.

I have lofty/unfair expectations of this movie too because of reading the book and absolutely loving most things McCarthy, but god damnit if Charlize Theron ruins this for me. Casting was perfect until it came to her.

P.S.

The trailer is inaccurate and features scenes not even in the final cut:

Yeah that Esquire review confirms that the trailer is misleading.

7:59 that's a pretty ignorant comment.

i loved the book so much, i just hope this lives up to it (and the potential of the amazing cast).

the editing is pretty odd. it seems like they are trying to make it look like an action/thriller, which is far from what i see it as...

i have pretty low expectations for this movie. i think it's gonna be OK, but the book is too fantastic for it to measure up to it in any way.

Movie trailers have evolved into a long form commercial, and like regular commercials, they are intended to sell a product, such as portraying a major motion picture with stock music/visual effects. Unfortunately, the only movies that sell these days are action movies?! This is an incredibly psychoanalytic/mind bending book, and I hope they didn't turn it into just another one of "those movies." No Country For Old Men was great, and The Road....?
