on the floor

More from Jersey/D.C.'s Family Portrait, whose "Mega Secrets" may very well go down as our jam of the summer of jams 2k9. Underwater Peoples calls the band's romantic, surf/psych-tinged throwback "On the Floor" a "raucous boom boom chug-a-lug," and that pretty much nails it:

The group also sent over this breezy, laid-back instrumental, which will accompany "Mega Secrets" on a split 7" with Andrew Cedermark that's due on Underwater Peoples this Fall:

man, this distorted, reverb drenched aesthetic's gettin' really rampant and cliche. it's not gonna age well. Some of these songs are good, but they're getting ruined with a really bold, lame creative choice that's ruining the whole recording. it's the equivalent of autotune on rap tracks. Just a shitty gimmick that'll age as well as cottage cheese in the sun.
yeah, reverb won't age well. no one ever used reverb before and after this, no one will ever again.
really digging everything I've heard from these dudes
oh yeah bamboo you're right, people HAVE been putting a reverb plugin on their master fader set to like 70 % wet/dry and fuckin' up their recording to sound authentic since like the beach boyz. good point.
Raucous, booming, chugging, lugging, love it!
where's the XMU playlist for this week? Loved the show!
This steve dudes sarcasm is confusing. Can't tell if he just accepted his absurd claims rejection or not.
Everyone seems ready lately to dismiss any sounds or aesthetics emerging right now as being insincere or cliche. I think it boils down to people not getting it. It seems pretty simple to me there will always be people trying to ride the coattails of any new bands sounds but the fact of the matter is that if IT IS CATCHY then IT IS CATCHY.
Let yer ears do the deciding, if it's good music it will stand out on its own merits, if it's just ripping off what is going on then it will easy to dismiss it as derivative rubbish.
Try and not lose any sleep over it, it's just fun, catchy music dude...
Oh and I am in total agreement, "Mega Secrets" had been in constant rotation since I first heard it. So catchy and effortless sounding-great melody too. These new tunes are rad as well. A full length of songs like this..cannot wait for it.
Is this a Ramones cover?
