I received this first cryptic, seemingly high-budget "teaser" clip a little over a month ago, and didn't hear any more about it until yesterday, when the sender posted up another clip with pretty impressive production values, prompting much speculation/debate on Twitter. Popular guesses so far include The Knife (probably not), Goldfrapp (definitely maybe), MGMT (who cares), Lady Gaga (weak), and Christina Aguilera (whoa). Admittedly, we're playing right into their PR campaign by posting this, but we're intrigued (unless it's Lady Gaga). Anyway, take part in the viral scheme of 2k10 by leaving your guesses in the comments. update: commenter Carlyle offers up these two links, which seem to implicate Goldfrapp's Head First.
update II: fake twitter acct. @iamamiwhoami claims they are none of the above, but we're still pretty certain it's Goldfrapp

Dang it sure is intriguing and well executed, isn't it? Right down to the creepy Twitter page. I guess I'm gonna go with Goldfrapp as well, seems the most logical from an artistic and musical perspective. But I hope it's somebody we've never even heard of. It might be MGMT, just based on the high budget that would be required for something so small and short. It seems a bit darker than their sound though.

Searched Metacritic for upcoming album releases - Goldfrapp is slated for 3/23/10, but CD releases are gradually moving to Mondays instead of Tuesdays, hence 3/22/10.
If you really want to find out, pay attention to the numbers they are titled with. A little cryptoanalysis will go a long way...

This is a kind of out there guess, probably not accurate, but maybe it has to do with that Kevin Barnes and Andrew Van Wingarten (sp?) project? I think they said it was kinda dark. But aside from that I think Goldfrapp is the most likely choice.
Fever Ray?
Oddly enough this sorta reminds me of some of the work the Chris Cunningham did for Aphex Twin a while back. His work has always had incredible production values. As for the music, I'm gonna go ahead and say I doubt it's Aphex Twin, though he does have a pretty wide range of styles...plus there hasn't been anything out of him in a long time. Just my thought out of leftfield haha, but the vid part really reminds me of cunningham...

Carlye has to be right. not only does it make sense according to those numbers, but it looks, sounds and feels like Goldfrapp.
Since the twitter is fake then we can assume the twitpics are fake as well, so we're back to square one.

This thing is all over the place. @ ONYD @ popjustice [which even gives the email account name it was sent from], and other sites.
I believe the numbers have something to do with it the name of the artist, or songs?. Some of the number sequences are repeated in all the, both titles of the videos and the email address account name.

I believe it's a collaboration of some sort definitely, it's not too far away from GaGa, but I think it could definitely be someone like Christina Aguiliera latching on to the whole electronic craze, some of the production values are really nostalgic of Fever Ray(Karin from the Knife) so I could imagine it could possibly be like some sort of major person buying the services of a cooler more 'hip' electronic sound in order to look talented and more individual.
I don't think it's GaGa. Although the very long eyelashes remind me of her, it somehow doesn't look like something she would do. It reminds me of Christina from around the time her Fighter video came out. Has that same dirty feel.
I think Goldfrapp maybe right but this immediately made me think of the Trent Reznor sideproject "Jakalope". Not sure if anyone remembers the viral campaign for "it dreams" album. It's possible Dave and Trent are making another push with Jakalope since they have a record planned in 2010. Just throwing it out there!

1. we already know we are supposed to get a new album from him soon.
2. its supposed to sound darker, and its all simpler and electronic according to his interview a little while back. this stuff sounds a lot darker and simpler than person pitch.
3. on the second video, the owl sound is exactly the same as the owl sound on "bros" off person pitch.
4. the singing on the fourth video reminds me of his singing.
5. he has the budget, resources, and artistic vision to put these out.
i find it highly unlikely that lady gaga or christina aguilera would do anything like this...

anon, are you a moron? i said the clips are intriguing, nothing more. it's an interesting viral promo campaign, sure, but it's impossible to tell if this project is going to be any good based on minute-long instrumental clips. of course i'd be more interested if it turns out to be some i like, as opposed to someone embarrassing/terrible (like lady gaga). has nothing to do with how mainstream the artist is.
we're so eager to decode the mystery in art that we lose the art in doing so.
I'm seeing Lady Gaga here. The nose profile and teeth match some unretouched images I've been looking at...but they are admittedly poor resolution so it could be anyone. (check out bad romance video 1:08) But the order the lower teeth crowd in seems to be identicalish. Also, the fisheye shot that doesn't have any distortion on it seems to have the same proportion from caruncle to caruncle over the bridge as Lady Gaga. It's super hard to judge and they've gone to great lengths to cover up the identity...which in a way is exactly the same game Lady Gaga would play.

It's definately not Goldfrapp..the sound is too distinct. It could possibly be Christina but doesn't look or sound like her..that's from the teeth and the softer more european voice in those videos. The youtube account says the country is Vanuatu..hmmmm which obviously rules out all of the above. For me the videos look too high budgeted for it to be an artist who's unknown so that's why I'm drawn to a band or something. Or maybe the girl is simply a brand new artist..who knows!
