mp3: new Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti | "Round and Round"

As previously reported, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti recently signed with 4AD for the release of their next full-length, due sometime this spring. On lead single "Round and Round," a newly focused/evolved Ariel Pink conjures the kind of genuine nostalgia and longing that was hinted at on brilliant '08 single "Can't Hear My Eyes." This one, though, is elevated by a chorus that may be the best thing he's ever written: unabashedly sentimental, pure '70s AM-radio gold that easily transcends the lo-fi tag that Pink is apparently trying to shed with the release of this new record. An early frontrunner for song of the year:

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti :: Round and Round

The limited Round and Round 7" single is out on 4AD on April 26.

hey, seany here.
as every1 knowz, im such a fucking fan of the a pink h graffitti , i mean we're talking fuckn 'doldrmz is like the best album ever' smashn ur gf to 'kate i wait' but then taking acid and telling alan palomo to get tacos with you. you blast 'strange fires' and he just goes 'god damn' im like yeah- make an album dude. then you get to the taco place and hes like. dude. have no money right now. but you cover him cuz at the time ur working at a dry cleaners. and you just livn in a haze like his chosen aesthetic until u know.. he learns how to craft into marketability.

just saying... this song fucking is like turning on the radio and like ur friend jumps in ur car, as u drive off the wind blows through your hair and your just like 'man we own these streets' and then you wreck and glass goes through both of your 'beaner hair' and while blood is gushing out, yo ushit yourself. then wake up. and realize you dont have a job anymore

its good.

I just heard this yesterday on Sirius. Come to think of it it was probably your guys show. It's pretty damn good, just shows how much pop sensibility is hiding behind lo-fi.

Woah, so you're telling me that so far Pitchfork has liked TWO artists after GvB so far this year. I would say you've certainly hit on a trend. Just focus on how this song is awesome, and now people who read P4k and not GvB (which is too bad for those folks) will be exposed to it.

This song is tasteless and disgustingly insincere! There is no passion, personality or originality. 4AD only signed Ariel for simple profit off his name. He didn't actually write this song, it was something the label had saved in their indie pop library. So heartbreaking to see an artist become hypnotized by the baphomet.

lauren james = strangest comment ever. ...profit of ariel's name?? pretty sure 4AD was doin' ok before the 'bagloads of cash' Ariel's name brought with it.

also pretty sure this song wasn't in the label's 'mysterious library of ghostwritten songs.' although, maybe you know 4AD's dark secrets.

here's what i got when i googled "baphomet":

oh lauren, i love you for totally weirding me out.

i used to have roommate named lauren who i'm pretty sure went clinically insane -- are you her??

ariel -- keep diggin' into 4AD's magic crates of pre-written material b/c this shit is IT!

im so glad that we've 'all decided' to stay true to our 'relevant' roots and 'quote everything that we say like carles' bc its 'true'/'not faggoty'/'super chillwavey.'

Yeah, I mean this song was written in part (and released) awhile back by Ariel. You can hear the original here:

I remember when Bitchfork was giving poor reviews to Ariel and saying his music was a mixture of misguided genius and idiot savant. The Doldroms got a 5.0. That's when I stopped reading that shitty website.
