dara puspita: 1966-1968

We first discovered the amazing tropical garage-psych-pop of 1960s Indonesian girl-group Dara Puspita last summer on a tip from Brian Weitz, and immediately tracked down everything we could find from the group, which wasn't a whole lot. The incomparable Sublime Frequencies has just made things a lot easier by compiling 26 tracks(!) from four of the group's impossible to find seminal records -- Jang Pertama (pictured), Special Edition, Green Green Grass, and A Go Go -- on the essential new Dara Puspita: 1966-1968 compilation, due next week on the label. Reissue of the year so far:
mp3:
dara puspita :: believe me
dara puspita :: kerja kami
dara puspita :: to love somebody*
Pre-order Dara Puspita: 1966-1968 from Forced Exposure.

If you like this you'll love http://www.garagehangover.com/: 60s/70s garage music browsable by country and state. It has Dara Puspita, but also countless other gems that are equally worthy.
yeah, garage hangover is def. one of my favorites, so many great obscure finds
This is been around awhile i remember hearing that version of "To Love Somebody" sometime last year.
Koes Plus, 70s Indonesian band. Yeah.

Nice :) I was just listening to them today. Are they going to release this on vinyl? And if not, why the f not?!?!
You guys should also check White Shoes & The Couples Company, another band from Indonesia, still currently exist but they revive the 60s sound beautifully (they once played in SXSW too, back in 2008 if I'm not wrong)
